Summary of recommendations from the June 11 th meeting

  1. Scheduling:
    • Discussion about using MyLacrosse League or old way. Decision for Rich Morgan and Kate to manage the computer scheduling, with better training, deadlines, and followup.
    • Schedule done earlier. Clubs that do not send in information by the deadline will not be guaranteed dates/fields.
    • Games on Saturday and Sunday to minimize competition for fields and officials.
    • Identify 5/6 sites per weekend and play all games at those sites.
    • Provide 2 monitors per field (an a.m. and a p.m. monitor). These monitors should be adults, who can observe the games, and, if necessary, provide impartial reports to CGLA.
    • RECOMMENDATION for Admins to bring information about fields/resources to November meeting.
    • Scrimmage dates for grades 6/7/8 will be scheduled for early March. The season will consist of 6 game dates (4 in April and 2 in May). The festival will be held in late May. Teams may play in the Jamboree after Memorial Day if they want a competitive experience to finish the season.
  2. Officials
    • It is everyone's responsibility to recruit new officials. We need to form a pipeline of officials through college players, High School coaches, Basketball coaches, parents, athletes from other sports, etc..
    • Recruit 6/7 th graders at the festival.
    • Need for more on-field training. Hope to get that at the Turkey Shoot, free clinics, scrimmage dates in the spring.
  3. Conduct and Standards
    • Rise in yellow cards
    • Coaches harassing youth officials. How do we address this????
    • EVERY coach MUST have PCA/Level 1 coaches' education- A coach that hasn't completed this mandatory training cannot participate in CGLA.
    • Sideline manager - may be a third official. Need education to parents and coaches after a "bad call".
    • Purple cards ("Sideline Cards")- need to be used more often, and parents must be aware of the card prior to the beginning of the season. Coaches must be involved from the beginning, by educating parents on the importance of expected behavior.
    • Adult observer to help with situations.
    • Need for reporting system back to CGLA ED for yellow cards, red cards, coaches not following the rules, etc.. CGLA must follow its own rules for infractions.
    • Rules and regulations are on the website..need to be followed.

Treasurer Report

  • Discussion about paying sideline managers. Tabled until the November meeting. Dues would have to be raised to cover the cost of the sideline manager.

VP Report

  • Still looking for a replacement
  • Wendy was absent so no report

ED Report

  • Discussion about Team Colorado format- Should it return to its prior mandate of fielding a team to send to the US Lacrosse Natl. Youth Festival? Can CGLA and Colorado Lacrosse Foundation work together to provide girls with a more positive experience? Note that over the past 3 years, many new clubs (Blue Sky, Futures, Team 180, etc.) have emerged with the goal of providing girls with a competitive experience. Should that be a part of CGLA's mandate?
  • Fall Ball
  • Turkey Shoot November 17th at Lorenz
  • Free Clinics in Colorado Springs and Denver.working on dates and sites. These clinics will have a "coaches' education" portion. Also a coaches' clinic/meeting in late February will be mandatory.
