Web Site

Launched last May, www.cglax.com is the only web resource for the CGLA. Season information for the 2006 season continues to be added on a regular basis. Contact Sarah (sarahgrey1@aol.com) or Katie (kpace@graland.org) with suggestions or to have items added to the website.

There will be an addition to the website that will contain a listing of team locations and contacts to facilitate parents looking for a team for their child. A sheet was circulated for administrators to list website information for inclusion on the site. Additionally, the CGLA encourages clubs to add a link to the CGLA website to their sites.

Coaching Certification Process Update

Sarah reiterated that the Board is committed to creation and implementation of a certification process for all new coaches in the league.

A mandatory coaching meeting will occur March 1 st at DU, specific details can be found under the calendar section of the website. The meeting will afford the opportunity for coaches to obtain important information regarding rules changes. The coaches can rotate through special sessions. For instance, Greg Courter, coach at Kent (2005 Champions), will be talking about defense, and Abby Burbank, CLF president and co-owner of Competitive Edge, will be talking about how to plan your practices, including specific drills.

US Lacrosse offers a clinic with classroom material as well as stick skills and hand on instruction. At the completion, a coach will be Level One certified. Abby Burbank, CLF President, updated that the program will eventually go through Level Four.

Voting Issues

Sarah followed up on a discussion from last meeting regarding some teams from Santa Fe interested in playing in the CGLA Festival. With input from the last Board meeting and the Executive Board, it was determined that the CGLA Festival should be limited to CGLA teams since it is not a tournament. However, clubs can independently schedule games with the Santa Fe teams and the contact information was circulated.

A motion was made with a unanimous vote to approve the November 16, 2005 Board meeting minutes.

Team Payment Process

League registration payment is $415 per team. Fees are due February 25 th and there will be no exceptions. Checks should be mailed to: James Beram, 7109 South Hudson Circle, Centennial, Colorado, 80122. A form is available on the website.

Please remember to secure a field for Sunday make-up games should there be bad weather. And, remember that each player needs a current US Lacrosse membership. If rosters are available, please go ahead and submit them.

Colorado Lacrosse Foundation Participation

Treasurer James Beram reported that he will serve as the CGLA delegate to the Colorado Lacrosse Foundation. If anyone has specific concerns to be forwarded to the CLF, please direct them to James.

Officials Update

Hillary Patterson, CWLOA Youth Liaison, gave an update on season systems.

Feedback for Officials

Please direct any feedback to Hillary Patterson at pattersh@comcast.net . Please copy Sarah Grey & Katie Pace on all correspondence regarding officiating.

Laminated Cards

Laminated cards will be made for the officials that have information on rules for each age level. They will also be available for coaches. Please e-mail Hillary with your mailing address and she will mail some for your club.

Officials Talks

For $30, officials will come address a club, parents or other group and review rules and have a question and answer session.

New Rules & Official Training

Hillary also provided and update on rules.

Sportsmanship Cards

This was a program piloted by boys lacrosse. Visit www.uslacrosse.org for more information on the program. A direct link will be added to the CGLA website. It is an effort to encourage good sportsmanship by all participants, coaches and spectators. Officials can card coaches when a fan is unruly, but not spectators. A sideline manager will be present and can give a card to a fan. It is at the official's discretion to stop the game if necessary.

Official No Shows

If an official does not show up to a game, please contact Hillary or Kim Wallace, CWLOA Youth Assigner. Likewise, if you find out an official cannot be at a game and you are unsure if there will be an official there, please contact Hillary or Kim. Hillary reminded the group that the officials should be calling the home field coach the day prior to confirm game time and location. Cici clarified that the hosting coach is responsible for notifying opposing coaches and official of any game cancellations. Sarah encouraged each club to have a method of efficiently communicating field status to their coaches.

Rule Books

Books with all rules are available from US Lacrosse. Coaches and parents are encouraged to get their own copies.

Hard Boundaries

Hard boundaries are new this year so please remember to notify field liners. Officials cannot allow a game to proceed if there are no marked boundaries.

Mouth Pieces

Mouth pieces can't be cut off to far, please refer to the rule book.

Body Contact

Slides were handed out from the National Clinic clarifying that there can be no stick-to-body and body-to-stick contact. Hillary provided a demonstration of contact that was and was not acceptable. Impede, reroute and displace are the key words from the rule. Officials understand that contact happens at the youth level. They will call fouls for lack of control and want to make sure coaches are teaching legal defensive positioning.

Officials Training

Training sessions for all levels are this weekend in Colorado Springs and February 26 at Regis University. More information is available at the CWLOA website, www.cwloa.org .

Katie reminded administrators, delegates, and coaches to review and be familiar with the Rules 2006 document on the website.

Fundraising Report

Wendy reported that her role is fundraising for the CGLA. There will be merchandise available for purchase at the clinic at All City Stadium and the Festival. Before the Festival, merchandise will be available to be viewed on the website.

Gary Gait, Blue Sky Lacrosse, announced that Kronke Sports has a new facility opening in March, 2007 in Commerce City. The facility could be available for the Festival, preseason tournaments, etc. They are working to bring some high profile tournaments to Denver.
